Now that we have found an effective tool for fluency and automaticity
in math, another set of skills that must be addressed is visual-spatial and
motor control difficulties. Within mathematics, visual-spatial and motor
control difficulties can be found when the individual is writing numbers,
aligning digits in computation scenarios and recalling visual representations.
One technology device that I gravitated towards, that provides support in these
specific math skills is MathPad’s regrouping feature. MathPad is an application
that provides audio enhancements when manipulating arithmetic computations and
whole numbers. By utilizing the mouse and keyboard, students with fine motor
activities are able to complete the desired math tasks without frustration. I
believe MathPad is an effective resource to use within the classroom because it
provides differentiation to both main stream students, and learners with
disabilities.
