Learning from AT Internet Modules

Within the module based on AT For School Age, I was able to obtain many aspects of useful information. During the category of AT Assessment Process in the School Environment, I was introduced to many components of the AT Assessment Process. I have never been a vocal component of an AT team, so most of the information being reciprocated was new to my range of knowledge. I was most intrigued with the initiation of the assessment process. I have recognized that the IEP team is responsible for choosing the specified AT that will work best with the student’s strengths and weaknesses in particular environments. During the second component of the module, AT Consideration in the IEP Process, I learned there were areas of consideration that must be addressed in order to meet the child’s needs. Some of these questions include: “"What is it that we expect the student to be able to do in the educational program that he/she is currently unable to do because of his/her disability?" and “Would AT provide a solution for that?”. When I am choosing an appropriate device for a learner, I will always remember to ask these important questions to aid in the student’s growth. When pertaining to Automatic Speech Recognition, also known as ASR, many benefits are apparent. Particularly when working with students who struggle with skills such as spelling, ASR provides adaptations to remove challenges of weaknesses. I hope to use ASR in my future teaching experiences, because I believe it is a useful resource with many positive benefits.
